Kalamazoo area residents are invited to participate in an observational study being conducted through the Center for Clinical Research at the Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine. Over the next 3 years, we want to enroll 500 people age 35-55. Each person will get a CT scan of the heart (CCTA) to look for clogging (atherosclerosis) of the arteries and also to assess the calcium built up in the arteries. This is a sign of heart artery blockage (coronary artery disease). The study will be used to help improve care for people with undiagnosed coronary artery disease. It will also look at blood tests that may help assess the risk of having heart artery blockage.
Type 1 Diabetes TrialNet, an international network of researchers exploring ways to prevent and delay the progression of type 1 diabetes, is taking great strides for type 1 diabetes. Screening is the first step in the pathway to prevention. Those at increased risk may be able to join research studies testing ways to prevent and delay the disease.
